The plain
South of Şanlıurfa the land drops and opens onto the flat of the Harran Plain. Summers are very hot and almost without rain, with a July average of 32 °C. Winters are mild: the January average is 5-6 °C.

Karaali
Karaali lies out on the plain, about 45 km from the city centre. Geothermal water was found here in 2000, and the district’s greenhouse growing began with it.
The water rises at 42-48 °C and heats the houses, so tomatoes, peppers and aubergines are harvested through the cold months too. Most of the houses grow in soilless systems.
